Carlsbad parents and community members will be rallying in front of the Carlsbad Unified School District Office at 5:15pm on Wednesday to support the CUSD Board’s plan to fight back against Board President Kathy Rallings and her attempt to take $3.1 million out of the fiscal reserves budget without authorization.

Today the Carlsbad Education Alliance submitted a formal complaint with the Carlsbad Unified School District for violations of California's open meeting laws (known as the Brown Act), as well as numerous violations of state laws and board policies on conflicts of interest and trustee compensation - all of which occurred during a single discussion and vote at the May 21, 2025 Board Meeting

Electing educators to local school boards often results in a pay bump for teachers, but does not correlate with higher student achievement.
